Books I Have to Read on My Reading List

I saw the Lightning Thief this weekend and it was a good movie, but It was hardly anything like the book. The storyline was still the same though.

Persephone was in it with Hades

Ares wasn't in there

Hermes wasn't in there either

Clarisse wasn't in the movie

Percy knew he was Poseidon's son BECAUSE his mom told him

gods weren't allowed contact at all with their children

Annabeth didn't have her invisible baseball cap!!!

summary from Amazon

It's not hard to see Twilight in the DNA of this novel: Zara's stepfather has died, her mother isn't capable of caring for her, and she has been sent to live with her grandmother in a small remote town in Maine. When her car spins out of control (Calling Stephenie Meyer!), she's rescued by sexy Nick (who turns out to be a werewolf), and something might be cooking with her overachieving classmate Ian. Too bad she's being followed by someone dark and dangerous—a pixie king. This pixie is no harmless sprite: when not mated with a queen for an unspecified amount of time, Zara learns, the pixie kings will demand... young human men, who they kill after using them for their blood-hungry pleasures. Will Zara sacrifice herself to this vampire stand-in or let him destroy everything she loves? Jones (Love {and Other Uses for Duct Tape]) easily wins readers to Zara's side, portraying her as a funny, globally conscious teen who also collect[s} fears like other people collect stamps (obscure phobias serve as chapter titles). Genre fans will enjoy the sizzle between Nick and Zara as well as the paranormal cast. Ages 12–up. (Jan.)

  • This really seemed like a Twilight knock-off. I will not list reasons because some people may want to read it and I hate spoiling endings for myself and others.
  • This book was good and I've heard the next one was even better!

The Last Olympian
by Rick Riordan
stars I'll give:5+
Summary from Amazon

All year the half-bloods have been preparing for battle against the Titans, knowing the odds of victory are grim. Kronos's army is stronger than ever, and with every god and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan's power only grows. While the Olympians struggle to contain the rampaging monster Typhon, Kronos begins his advance on New York City, where Mount Olympus stands virtually unguarded. Now it's up to Percy Jackson and an army of young demigods to stop the Lord of Time.

In this momentous final book in the New York Times best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the long-awaited prophecy surrounding Percy's sixteenth birthday unfolds. And as the battle for Western civilization rages on the streets of Manhattan, Percy faces a terrifying suspicion that he may be fighting against his own fate.

  • My favorite part(s) was when Nico was trying to summon his mother from the dead and the image came up of her and Hades being together with Nico and Bianca. It showed how kind Hades was. Then when Hades helped and the other gods clapped for him. Next Percy and Annabeth finally being together.
  • I hate Rachel! Especially what she tells them at the end.

The Battle of the Labyrinth
by Rick Riordan
stars I'll Give: 5+
summary from Amazon

*Note since practically everyone, but me has read this series I'll only put main things I liked and disliked. I am also feeling lazy so that's is another reason for no review.

As an incoming freshman, Percy isn't expecting his high school orientation to be any fun. But when a mysterious mortal acquaintance appears, followed by demon cheerleaders, things quickly move from bad to worse.

In this fourth installment of the blockbuster series, time is running out as war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near. Even the safe haven of Camp Half Blood grows more vulnerable by the minute as Kronos's army prepares to invade its once impenetrable borders. To stop them, Percy and his demigod friends will set out on a quest through the Labyrinth-a sprawling underground world with stunning surprises at every turn. Full of humor and heart-pounding action, this fourth book promises to be their most thrilling adventure yet.

This is weird maybe but this has been the best book out of all the series(for me). 5th coming in second, 1st third, 2nd fourth, and 3rd last.

  • I LOVED THE ENDING OF THIS BOOK! IT WAS SO CUTE!
  • I WAS SO GLAD WHEN ANNABETH FINALLY KISSED PERCY!

A LOT!

Review for Graceling
By Kristian Cashore
Stars I'll Give:4.8

Summary:

In Katsa's world, the "Graced," those gifted in a particular way, are marked by eyes that are different colors. Katsa's Grace is that she is a gifted fighter, and, as such, she is virtually invincible. She is in the service of her tyrannical uncle, king of one of the seven kingdoms, and she is forced to torture people for infractions against him. She has secretly formed the Council, which acts in the service of justice and fairness for those who have been accused and abused. Readers meet her as she is rescuing the father of the Lienid king, who has been abducted. The reasons for his capture are part of a tightening plot that Katsa unravels and resolves, with the help of Prince Po, the captive's grandson. He has his own particular Grace, and he becomes Katsa's lover and partner in what becomes a mortally dangerous mission. Cashore's style is exemplary: while each detail helps to paint a picture, the description is always in the service of the story, always helping readers to a greater understanding of what is happening and why. This is gorgeous storytelling: exciting, stirring, and accessible. Fantasy and romance readers will be thrilled.—Sue Giffard, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, New York City

My Review:
Graceling was a very very great book. The plot was good and I pictured the story perfectly. I like how you could tell if the people were Graced by their eyes. One of the reasons I chose this book was because my name was part of the title and the lady at the checkout in a local bookstore was almost forcing me to buy it. About five days later I started it and didn't understand what was happening so I stopped. Now three months later I'm writing a review on it. I liked the characters and their attitudes. They were very well developed. However, with Katsa, she really didn't act her complete age till about halfway through the book, but then progressed. I was also shocked with what happened at the end...

If I had to choose my grace it would be good luck. My eyes would be light blue and dark violet.

If you liked this book then read Savvy by Ingrid Law.

Re review on The Seven Rays
Stars:3.5

This book is really three, but the cover design is amazing. Now that I really think about it this book was only okay. The thing is I guess I wanted it to be good so I put in my mind it was good. The idea of the story was excellent, just the way it was written wasn't. The characters to perfect, and some inappropriate parts as well. Love at first sight? Get real! It also confused me a little bit. There were good parts though. I cannot say them without revealing the whole story though. I hope they make a movie because it probably would be better than the book.
